Overwatch Team Has Been Quite Deceptive as Per Their Commitment to Open Communication
Ode to Overwatch: The Road to Launch Looks Shaky for Overwatch 2
With the Watchpoint Pack description being changed/hidden and not being open about hero unlocks, the team is once again just going against how they planned to be more communicative. This is the same issue that we had when they announced 5v5 late, and here we are once again.
They knew gating heroes wouldn’t be received well. But other than ruining the competitive integrity and brand identity that has allowed the game to flourish despite how terrible Blizzard has been for a few years now, they’re even selling content without being transparent about.
People who bought the Watchpoint pack were never made aware of this change. What if they didn’t want to buy it if it meant it would ruin their Day 1 experience?
And worst of all, people are defending this just because they love to justify terrible business practices just because it’s the norm and other titles do it. The truth is that Overwatch was still doing well, and it will do well either way. So that totally takes away bringing terrible monetization from the ground up.
I assume Jeff knew how anti-consumer, anti-polish, anti-identity this “sequel”…
