One Piece Chapter 1049 Review: Kaido in Shambles
Voice of One Piece: Memories of Kaido
This chapter gave us a bit more insight on Kaido’s character. It’s been a long time coming, but if Kaido is truly done for, it seems a little too little, too late.
Kaido seems to be obsessed with Joy Boy’s character, and that’s what he shares with King too. They’re both looking towards someone they’ve heard of, someone who’s supposed to be great, and Kaido believe Joy Boy is someone who will defeat him. But that’s an odd statement, does Kaido believe he’s in the wrong for wanting Joy Boy to defeat him, Or is it perhaps the concept of Joy Boy only exists if he’s wrong, and he wants someone to wake him up.
Though King is also waiting for Joy Boy, so it may play into a Lunarian mystery or agenda in the world. This makes Luffy and Sanji’s connection to that race all the more interesting.
The backstory we got so far wasn’t anything remarkable as it still skipped over the important bits. We still have to know how Kaido survived and met Whitebeard and Rocks, how we became a ruthless warlord, and why he wants the One Piece. But we seem to be heading towards the answer.
Kaido didn’t seem to be a terribly bad person when he was younger, so it’s definitely interesting why he’s so brash and harmful today.
