One Piece Chapter 1047 Review: Battle Between Life and Lightning

Voice of One Piece: Luffy Adds Lightning to his Ridiculous Repertoire

We got a simple chapter progressing the fight between Kaido and Luffy, which is starting to just drag at this point and isn’t really creative. I like Luffy’s attempted at objectifying lightning and adding it to his arsenal, but the fight remains one which focuses on an exchange of brute strength with flashes of lasers or lightning here and there.

Luffy is attempting to wanting to finish the fight by landing a giant, haki infused lightning punch which may deal impactful damage to Kaido, but he doesn’t seem as damaged to be taken out by it.

It’s more of an excuse for Momonosuke to expedite the process of moving Onigashima out of the way so that people on and under it survive the crash.

It’s always refreshing to see more flashbacks to add more flavor to character, inching in upon their motivations and desires. This memory of Momonosuke seems to focus more on the mother as she sees Wano as her sinking ship while she’s the captain and so decides to go down with it, perhaps as an indication that the Kozuki Clan is done for.
